Davino is located in Southern Romania and is considered one of the most famous wine
producers of the Dealu Mare DOC, a renowned region for its high-quality red wines and
aromatic white wines.
The Davino Wine Cellar is located in the large hillside vineyard in Ceptura, on its all four hillside
plateaus
DAVINO is having the reputation of being one of the most important Romanian producers in
the super-premium category
DAVINO was founded in 2003, owns almost 68 Ha and has 40-year-old vineyards of Cabernet
Sauvignon and Merlot
in a pure Bordeaux style, DAVINO produces mostly coupages, but also, we can find in their
portfolio two pure Romanian varieties, vinified in an exceptional style: Feteasca Neagra(rood) and
Feteasca Alba(wit)
DAVINO wines are considered as a landmark in Romania, being often used as a reference and
identification element for purity of varieties. Even in science, at the Faculty of Viticulture and
Winegrowing at the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Sciences, DAVINO wines
are used when writing scientific papers.
The History
The DAVINO business began in 1997 when Dan Balaban, involved at that time in wine
distribution, started producing his own wine with grapes bought by other producers
Over two years DAVINO bought its first vineyard and so began the story of the winery which is
now considered a landmark in the super premium category in Romania

Probably the most important moment in DAVINO history was when Dan Balaban, visiting the
cellars in Romania, met Bogdan Costachescu, at that time, a technology engineer at IAS Urlaţi
It was a meeting that would define the history of the winery, but also the subsequent evolution
of modern Romanian viticulture

The unofficial history says that Bogdan Costachescu was so disappointed at that time about the
viticulture in Romania that he was determined to leave the country.
It is said that Dan Balaban
made him reconsider his plans at the airport. From that time, the two are associated and
determined to change the world’s opinion on the quality of Romanian wines
