Cuvee Monsignori - de topwijn van Estate Argyros - Oogstjaar 2022
Schitterend klassieke Assyrtiko afkomstig van wijnstokken van meer dan 200 jaar oud.
Rijk van smaak, frisdroog, verfijnd citrus gevolgd door tonen van abrikoos, mediterrane specerijen, iets vanille,
"lemon blossom" en vulkanische mineraliteit.
De wijnmaker schrijft:
Cuvee Monsignori is Estate Argyros’ vision on what Santorini Assyrtiko can actually be. Excessively old Assyrtiko vineyards, at least two hundred years old, giving minute yields. Fermented, partially uninoculated, in stainless steel, at cool temperatures and aged for ten months in stainless steel tanks on fine lees. A wine of breed, extract and length, that needs about four years in bottle to unfold and can be confidently kept for more than a decade after vintage.

The Monsignori vineyards in Episkopi are cultivated by Argyros family for over 200 years, and they were named after the Venetian "Mon Signor"-or "The Master", since they are some of the oldest on the island.
The vineyard of Episkopi, from which the grapes for this rare wine originate, is the oldest of Santorini. The privately owned vineyards of the Argyros Estate, called Monsignori, are over 200 years old, plowed with mules and the fruit they give expresses in a unique way the island's terroir. The sharp acidity, zesty profile and wonderful mineral character make it one of the island's top wines. On the label we see the old canava (cave to store wine) of the Argyros family from 1800.
"A world class wine": Cuvee Monsignori wordt in kleine oplages gemaakt en is niet ieder oogstjaar beschikbaar, zoals in 2021 door de moeilijke weersomstandigheden. 2022 was een uitstekend jaar, genoemd de kwalitatief beste oogst ooit.
2023 en 2024 waren zeer slecht, minimale opbrengst en is de wijn niet beschikbaar. Voor Delft waren onlangs, 07-2025, 6 flessen beschikbaar.
Vintage description: A mild winter with low rainfall, 155 mm total, followed by a warm, dry, windy spring. A summer without significant heat waves and continuously high temperatures, but some cool winds reduced hydric stress and disease pressure. Harvest was ten days early.

The ESTATE
Established in 1903 Estate Argyros is run by Matthew Argyros, 4th generation of winemakers.
Based in Episkopi Santorini, the winery owns 120ha of vineyards with ungrafted -original rootstock - phylloxera safe plants averaging 70 years old, including some of the oldest vines on the island which are over 200 years old.
Our philosophy is to craft outstanding boutique wines based only on the indigenous varieties of Santorini and mostly with Assyrtiko.

Santorini is een van de weinige plaatsen in Europa die nooit door de druifluis bereikt is waardoor de wijnstokken ruim meer dan honderd jaar oud konden worden.
De wijngaarden van Santorini liggen op zeer vulkanische grond.
Het belangrijkste druivenras op Santorini is de Assyrtiko, die op Santorini prachtige witte wijnen geeft, mineralig en fonkelfris.
